Welcome back to our look at Mecum’s upcoming 2022 Kissimmee auction. The countdown to opening day is just about 14 days now. Perusing the Corvette docket, we currently see 360 Corvettes listed which is more than double the number of consignments from 2 weeks ago. Expect a few more to be added as the date draws nearer.

Past previews focused on the Corvette Super Sport, Gulf One, and the C2 Z06 equipped Corvettes from Mecum’s Once in a Lifetime Corvette Offering. This time we’re going to focus on a diverse quartet of first and second generation cars ranging from a pilot line 1966 L88 to an ultra-rare 1957 airbox fuelie.

Mecum Auctions

Lot F158: 1960 Race Rat Tanker – When we think of big tank or “tanker” Corvettes, we generally think of C2’s. However, tankers were available to savvy buyers and racers on C1 Corvettes as well. In 1960, 10 big tank Corvettes were built. This 1960 fuelie was ordered through Nickey Chevrolet by George Reed to complete in the 1960 Sebring 12 hour race. In addition to the 315hp engine, Reed selected heavy duty suspension, heavy duty brakes, and a 4-speed transmission. Upon delivery to Sebring, Zora Arkus Duntov himself assisted with the final race prep. The car went on to win its class and finish 16th overall. Today the car is in excellent restored condition and has been displayed at top events such as the 2004 and 2014 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, the 2009 Los Angeles Concours d’Elegance, the 2010 NCRS 50th Anniversary display, and the 2013 Greenwich Concours d’Elegance. It’s also an NCRS American Heritage Award recipient.

Lot F164: 1957 Big Brake Airbox Fuelie – This well-known straight axle is one of 44 produced with RPO 579E, the fresh airbox intake. It’s also 1 of 54 with heavy duty brakes and suspension. Other options include a fuel injected engine, 4-speed transmission, and wider 5.5″ wheels. The car was raced in SCCA events across the country throughout its early life. Since that time, it’s been restored back to stock form and lays claimed to our hobby’s top awards including multiple NCRS Top Flights, Bloomington Gold, and 2 Bloomington Special Collections. It’s been featured in Vette Vues magazine and participated in the 75th anniversary Monterrey historics. It’s being offered from the John Justo collection with copious documentation, awards, and restoration photos.

1957 Big Brake Airbox Fuelie

Lot S113: 8,500-mile unrestored 1967 427/435 Coupe – We first saw the “Vault Find” 1967 Corvette at the 2017 Mecum Indy auction where it sold for $675,000 from the original owner’s family. The Marina Blue on blue 435hp coupe remains in unrestored, original condition with just 8,533 miles on the odometer. The option list includes the 435hp engine, M21 4-speed, F41 suspension, and 4.11 rear end. It’s never been shown or judged and comes documented with the window sticker, Protect-O-Plate, and car shipper.

8,500-mile unrestored 1967 427/435 Coupe

Lot S237: 1966 Pilot Line L88 Coupe – This Sting Ray is one of the “Four Kings,” 1966 Corvette factory racers. It’s the first known Corvette factory-prepared for Luigi Chinetti’s NART team, the first built with shoulder harnesses, and the second to be fitted with the cowl-induction fresh air hood. The intent was to test aluminum cylinder heads and other racing bits in the 1966 Sebring 12 hours. Pedro Rodriguez and Mario Andretti were to be the drivers, but they ended up in one of Chinetti’s Ferrari’s instead. Future pilots included Harold Whims, Don Yenko, John Finger, and John “Sam” Henderson. They completed at many notable tracks such as Daytona, Talladega, Charlotte Motor Raceway, Virginia International Raceway, Marlboro Motor Raceway, and Road Atlanta among others. The L88 engine sports a 1965-dated intake manifold and January 1966 dated aluminum cylinder heads. Other track-spec options include heater and defroster delete, radio delete, F41 suspension, Positraction rear axle, heavy-duty brakes, transistor ignition, M22 4-speed, and a 36 gallon gas tank. It’s extensively documented and has been shown at numerous national events over the last decade including 2014 and 2020 Bloomington Gold Collections, 2016 MCACN Corvette Legends Invitational, and the 2014 Corvettes at Carlisle Race Car Reunion.

Mecum’s monster 2022 Kissimmee auction will take place January 6th-16th at the Osceola Heritage Park. MotorTrend TV, MotorTrend+, and Discovery will have live coverage Wednesday, January 12th – Saturday, January 15th. Approximately 3,500 cars are expected. Keep an eye here and on the Mecum website as new additions are being added daily.

Corvettes for Sale: 1971 Corvette Convertible Was a Former Wedding Present

Corvettes for Sale: 1971 Corvette Convertible Was a Former Wedding Present

This classic 1971 Corvette seems to thrive on festive occasions.

For example, about 15 years ago, newlyweds received this Stingray convertible as a wedding present. They drove it a few times but it wound up spending most of the time in storage.

Corvettes for Sale: 1971 Corvette Convertible Was a Former Wedding Present

Not surprisingly, they wound up selling it a couple of years ago to the current owner, who planned to restore it but instead bought a house in Florida and has no time for such projects.

Therefore, on Christmas Day 2021, someone else will become the new owner after a no-reserve auction on eBay comes to an end on Saturday.

Corvettes for Sale: 1971 Corvette Convertible Was a Former Wedding Present

So far, 43 bids have climbed to $19,200.

On the bright side, this Stingray still has its original 350 engine hooked to a four-speed manual transmission. The owner says it “ran excellent” when he parked it in the garage two years ago, but it will need a new battery after sitting so long. About half of the 21,801 Corvettes built that year came with air conditioning, and fortunately this is one of them.

Corvettes for Sale: 1971 Corvette Convertible Was a Former Wedding Present

He says the interior “is all there” and in “pretty good condition.” The frame is described as rust-free, and the body looks “very good with a few cracks here and there.” It’s covered with paint that’s old “but looks good for a driver.” The brakes work, the exhaust looks new, and the tires have “a lot of tread” but definitely need to be replaced due to being 20 years old.

“All in all,” the owner says, his classic ‘Vette is “an excellent car to bring back to its previous glory.” After all, he muses, “where do you find a #’s matching factory air 4spd convertible project these days?”

1963 Corvette Split Window Coupe

For the collector who wants to own one of the most iconic Corvettes in the model’s 69-year run, the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray Sport Coupe is it. Chevrolet redesigned the Corvette in 1963 and for the first time, it came from the factory as a hardtop coupe. Zora Arkus-Duntov offered three different transmissions and four different engine performance options with the fuel injected 327/360hp L84 option reigning supreme. But what made the 1963 Coupe truly unique was the split rear window offered only in the inaugural year of the C2 before Zora successfully lobbied GM Design to change it to a single rear window in 1964.

1963 Corvette Split Window Coupe

The original owner of this 1963 Corvette Split Window Coupe must have been wanting to drive the ultimate street Corvette when he placed his order. Outfitted in Riverside Red and a Black interior, the original buyer made sure to check the box on the 327/360 Fuelie V8 as well as the four-speed manual transmission, while power windows, AM/FM radio, and whitewall tires rounded out the options. We can imagine it was quite at home cruising the boulevards back in the day.

1963 Corvette Split Window Coupe

This ’63 Fuelie Sting Ray has been meticulously detailed, undergone a frame-off restoration, and only 99 miles are showing on the odometer. This Corvette is still equipped with the original L84 engine as certified by Al Grenning’s C.C.A.S. service and the Trim Tag has also been verified. Further documentation includes the N.C.R.S. Shipping Data Report.

The Fuel Injected 1963 Corvette Sting Ray Sport Coupe would be the center point of any automotive collection. For details or more information, contact Tim at 714-630-0700.

1996 Corvette Grand Sport Convertible

When C4 production finally came to an end in ’96 after 12 years, Chevrolet knew they had to send it off with a bang, not a whimper. And since the ZR-1 was discontinued in ’95, there was definitely a void that needed to be filled!

1996 Corvette Grand Sport Convertible

The name “Grand Sport” had been used once before. It was for the fabled early ’60’s Corvette race cars helmed by legendary drivers such as Bob Bondurant, Roger Penske, A.J. Foyt, and Dr. Dick Thompson, among others. For this ’96 Special Edition, G.M. thought it fitting that the name should be brought back again!

We love the 1996 Corvette Grand Sport for what it offered to Corvette buyers – a limited edition Corvette with a unique engine to celebrate the end of a generation. Limited to 1,000 units overall, Chevrolet produced 810 coupes and 190 convertibles in Admiral Blue with a White full-length body stripe and Red hash marks on the front fenders. They also received a special black-painted version of the ZR-1 wheels with the coupes getting the import flares added to the body so the rear wheels would fit appropriately.

1996 Corvette Grand Sport Convertible

The Grand Sport’s LT-4 engine was rated at 330hp, which was 30 more than the standard LT-1 engine. However, the car’s performance feels considerably more powerful than the advertised increase would indicate!.

1996 Corvette Grand Sport Convertible

Corvette Mike acquired this ’96 Corvette Grand Sport Convertible by the original owner who only put 19,277 miles on the odometer. This GS is #117 in the series and is fully documented with all books, manuals, original window sticker, build sheet, and more. It also received a high score from the NCRS who awarded it Top Flight status. Celebrate the C4’s end of the line by adding this highly collectible Grand Sport to your stable.

This 1996 Corvette Grand Sport Convertible is offered for $52,900. Call Tim at 714-630-0700 for more information.

2016 Corvette Z06 Coupe

This 2016 Corvette Z06 with a seven-speed manual transmission, Magnetic Selective Ride Control, and the Z07 Performance Package was originally ordered from Legacy Chevrolet in Columbus, Georgia before it was acquired from the original owner by Corvette Mike in the fall of 2021. Powered by the 6.2-liter supercharged LT4 V8 engine that was rated for 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, this Z06 Coupe has just under 6K miles on the odometer and is documented with the original window sticker, manufacturer’s literature, and a clean CarFax report.

2016 Corvette Z06 Coupe

The Z06 is finished in Arctic White with Kalahari leather interior and features a full-length Black racing stripe across the hood, roof, and rear deck of the car. It’s outfitted with the level three visible carbon fiber aerodynamics package that includes the aggressive front splitter and rear wickerbill across the rear spoiler. It also includes a painted and transparent roof panel. Inside you’ll find the carbon fiber trim package surrounding the center stack and instrument cluster.

2016 Corvette Z06 Coupe

The Corvette Z06 sits on staggered setup of 19″/20″ Chrome-finished aluminum wheels with Corvette logo center caps. The rubber is currently mixed with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires up front and Continental Extreme Contact tires (non-runflats) in the rear. With the Z07 Performance Package comes Brembo’s carbon-ceramic brakes and red brake calipers.

Corvette Mike is offering this low-mileage one-owner 2016 Corvette Z06 for $89,900. Are you ready to be its next caretaker? Contact Tim at 714-630-0700 today.

Corvettes for Sale: 1971 Corvette 454 Yard Find on eBay

Corvettes for Sale: 1971 Corvette Yard Find on eBay

This 1971 Corvette Stingray coupe is reminiscent of a Dolly Parton song with its “coat (of paint) of many colors.”

Yes, it’ll take a lot of work to get this early C3 looking like the chrome bumper classic it yearns to be (including those chrome bumpers that have gone AWOL).

But at least a little bit of the heavy lifting has already been done for the new owner of this car currently for sale on eBay out of Northford, Connecticut at the “Buy It Now” price of $7,500.

Corvettes for Sale: 1971 Corvette 454 Yard Find on eBay

The seller apparently is a man of few words – 33 to be exact in his listing, but he does say that a rebuilt 454 engine has been installed under the hood and a new exhaust system installed. He candidly admits that he doesn’t know whether that motor is the original matching numbers unit.

He also points out that the front clip is not the right one and in one of the photos it does appear to be from a ’68.

Corvettes for Sale: 1971 Corvette 454 Yard Find on eBay

As for the interior, it’s hard to tell exactly what kind of shape it’s in because the radiator is resting on the rear deck and blocks the view. About all we see is the steering wheel and a bare driver’s door panel.

If the frame and birdcage aren’t too rusty, there could be enough room in the price to handle the restoration. What do you think?

Corvettes for Sale: 1967 Corvette 327/300 Offered on Bring A Trailer

The new owner of this 1967 Corvette convertible currently up for sale on Bring a Trailer may be singing the blues.

But definitely not in a mournful or sad way.

This vintage Sting Ray – which features a Lynndale Blue exterior, blue soft top, and Teal Blue vinyl interior – may be an older restoration, but it appears to remain in top-notch – or should we say Top Flight – condition nearly two decades after the work was completed.

Corvettes for Sale: 1967 Corvette 327/300 Offered on Bring A Trailer

Sold new through Barford Chevrolet in Clayton, Missouri, this Corvette is being offered on BaT by our friends at Corvette Mike for the next six days. Not surprisingly, interest has already been strong, with the high bid quickly hitting $75,000 Sunday afternoon.

That Lynndale Blue exterior was repainted during a restoration completed in 2003, and this Corvette went on to receive six NCRS Top Flight awards between 2005 and 2007 with a high mark of 99.1 and an average score of 97+. The car was even displayed in 2003 for the Corvette 50th Anniversary celebration at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles as well as at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California.

Corvettes for Sale: 1967 Corvette 327/300 Offered on Bring A Trailer

Its numbers-matching drivetrain includes a 327/300 horsepower V8 engine hooked to a four-speed manual transmission. Other equipment includes a Positraction rear end, power steering, four-wheel power disc brakes, AM/FM Delco radio, a vinyl-covered removable hardtop, tinted glass, lap belts, and BF Goodrich red-stripe tires around 15-inch Rally-style wheels with chrome rings and hubcaps

It’s hard to beat the look of a classic C2 Corvette, and we’re eager to see where the price of this one finally ends. We’ll just be singing the blues because it won’t be us behind the wheel when the auction ends!

Corvettes for Sale: 1,000-Mile 1990 Corvette ZR-1 in Rare Quasar Blue

One of just 19 ZR-1s built in 1990 in Medium Quasar Blue Metallic is currently up for sale on Bring a Trailer, and the rarity of that color, along with the extremely low mileage on the odometer, has already stirred up interest.

With five days left in the auction, this 1,100-mile Corvette has attracted a high bid of $35,250.

1990 was the debut year for the “King of the Hill” Corvette, which featured a 5.7-liter, 32-valve LT5 engine designed by Chevrolet and Lotus and built by Mercury Marine in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Corvettes for Sale: 1,000-Mile 1990 Corvette ZR-1 in Rare Quasar Blue

That powerplant produced a whopping 375 horsepower, a number that later climbed to 405 for the 1993-95 ZR-1s.

This car was delivered new to Harold Chevrolet of Bloomington, Minnesota, and the seller subsequently acquired it in September 2008. Having driven the car just 500 miles during the past 13 years, he’s now offering this rare C4 with a copy of the build sheet, purchase and delivery documentation, manufacturer’s literature, window sticker, clean Carfax, and clean Minnesota title.

Corvettes for Sale: 1,000-Mile 1990 Corvette ZR-1 in Rare Quasar Blue

The car has been serviced recently, including engine, transmission, and differential fluid changes, brake fluid exchange, fuel filter replacement, and recharge of the air conditioning system.

Still, despite the low mileage, the car will need repair of the secondary injection system, which is said to be malfunctioning.

Corvettes for Sale: 1,000-Mile 1990 Corvette ZR-1 in Rare Quasar Blue

The window sticker shows a bottom line price of $60,650 – with nearly half of that figure coming from the ZR-1 package that added $27,056 to the base price of $31,979. Besides the engine, buyers also received a widebody rear end treatment, along with FX3 Selective Ride suspension package with electronically adjustable Bilstein shocks, and four-wheel ABS brakes. This car also has dual removable roof panels ($915) and electronic air conditioning ($180).

As we’ve previously noted here, the demise of the ZR-1 began when Chevy changed all Corvettes to the same rear-end design (convex rear fascia and rectangular tail lights) in 1991 and then upped the horsepower of the base Corvette to 300 horsepower (from 245) the next year. Why pay double the price for not that much more performance, buyers reasoned, for a car that to most people looked just like the base model? Not surprisingly, sales plummeted to 502 in 1992 and then dipped to 448 each of the last three years.

Corvettes for Sale: 1,000-Mile 1990 Corvette ZR-1 in Rare Quasar Blue

Still, the 1990 ZR-1 represents a time when, just as it remains today, Chevrolet was at the top of its game with the Corvette.

[STOLEN] New York State Set To Auction a C7 Corvette Stingray Recovered From Dealership Heist

[STOLEN] New York State Set To Auction a C7 Corvette Stingray Recovered From Dealership Heist

Photo Credit: NYS Office of General Services

Here’s a story that you won’t find on the CarFax.

Now through June 8th, you have the chance to bid on a 2015 Corvette Stingray that has had some exciting experiences in the 31,320 miles that it’s covered since leaving its small Kentucky hometown. The seller is none other than the state of New York, which came into possession of a second-year C7 through unusual means; this isn’t a former drug dealer’s whip that was confiscated on a police bust.

The tale became truly interesting on a fateful night when an undisclosed number of bandits descended on a Chevrolet dealership outside of the Empire State. Depending on your point of view, the burglars/industrialists either stole or liberated the Torch Red over Adrenaline Red coupe from the showroom after the employees were safe at home. The flashiest car on the floorplan was a sitting duck without the three-pedal, seven-speed theft-deterrent option. The outlaws easily took possession of the LT1-powered beauty and had to make haste! OnStar could shut down the car remotely at any moment, so they needed to point its long hood towards New York and their mark. After meeting their rube, the car changed hands under false pretenses. Sometime later, the buyer tried to register it and was flagged by the DMV for application discrepancies. The C7 and its nervous owner were ordered to head to Rochester for a formal investigation. After a walkaround, Motor Vehicle examiners determined that the VIN had been altered; the owner had been duped into taking possession of stolen goods!

[STOLEN] New York State Set To Auction a C7 Corvette Stingray Recovered From Dealership Heist

The dealership that never made the OnStar call (inside job?) was tracked down, but by this time, their insurance company had already covered the value of the C7, and they declined the recovery opportunity.

This gave the newly crowned owners (the state of New York) the green light to move forward with an auction. As of writing, 157 bids had only taken the price to $29,400, a screaming deal for one of the hottest used cars on the market! It isn’t specified what hoops the next owner will have to jump through to title the C7 or if the VIN was corrected, but if the price is right, this could be your chance to pick up the final front-engine Corvette on the cheap! Place your bid (or just watch the action) right here! This rehabilitated Corvette deserves a good home!

Corvettes for Sale: 1969 Corvette 427 Project

It may look like Dolly Parton’s “Coat of Many Colors” right now, but this 1969 Corvette Stingray coupe offers up a lot of potential for a new owner.

Interest in this Corvette – which hasn’t been on the road since the 1980s – has been high on eBay, with 32 bids climbing to $10,000 with a week left in the auction.

Little wonder since the original numbers-matching L36 427/390 hp engine is still residing under the hood! That was actually one of five 427 options offered by Chevy that year and cost $221.20 back in the day, the most popular choice made by 10,531 customers. Other 427 options were the L68 427/400 hp, 2,072 made, $326.55; L71 427/435 hp, 2,722 made, $437.10; L88 427/430 hp, 116 made, $1,032.15; and L89, which offered aluminum cylinder heads with L71, 390 made, $832.05.

“It is a rare find today to see a ’69 Corvette still retaining its true original drivetrain and build sheet (tank sticker/Corvette order form),” the current owner notes.

Corvettes for Sale: 1969 Corvette 427 Project

The seller, who’s in Kenmmerer, Wyoming, says he has owned this Corvette for 10 years and had planned to restore it, but other projects just keep getting in the way so it’s time to move on, he believes.

While it’s been off the road for a long time, he believes “if you put fuel to it, it will still run,” but cautions this Stingray will require a complete frame-off restoration. “Bring a truck and trailer,” he warns. “You will not be driving it home!”

Corvettes for Sale: 1969 Corvette 427 Project

The car left the St. Louis factory wearing a coat of the one-year-only Riverside Gold paint, but that is subject to a new owner’s whims now since a complete repaint is in the offing. The seller claims the frame is straight, with no holes, and surface rust only, so that’s definitely a positive.

The interior is original, but it’s in dire need of some TLC, including new seat covers, new carpet, and either a dye job or a replacement of the back portion of the console around the emergency brake.

Corvettes for Sale: 1969 Corvette 427 Project

One of the photos with the listing shows the car next to a restored ’69, offering a neat example of how much potential awaits. Would you be willing to tap into that potential?

Corvettes for Sale: 65 Mile 2019 Corvette ZR1 Asks $200K

It’s not too late to get your hands on the baddest Corvette ever made, but your procrastination is going to cost you.

Pennsylvania’s JFK Auto is offering anyone willing to part with $200,000 the chance to take home a triple-black (black exterior, wheels, and interior) 2019 ZR1 with just 65 miles on the clock.

Corvettes for Sale: 65 Mile 2019 Corvette ZR1 Asks $200K

Out of the scant 2,953 C7 ZR1s produced, JFK’s example is exceedingly rare! It is one of just 192 ordered with the lower-tier (but lighter) 1ZR equipment group. In fact, the “high wing” ZTK Track Pack seems to be the only optional extra bestowed upon this black beauty by the fine folks of Bowling Green. It features the base seats and a “standard” three-pedal transmission. This keeps it breathing the rarefied air as one of 538 Black ZR1s, one of 2,077 big-wings, and one of 754 coupes with a manual gearbox.

Corvettes for Sale: 65 Mile 2019 Corvette ZR1 Asks $200K

$198,800 might feel a bit rich for a two-year-old car with a $126,000-spec sheet, but in a world where people are happily paying more than double MSRP for a base C8, we’d say this like-new specimen of the ultimate front-engine Corvette is worth every penny! But, if you are like us and didn’t get into Bitcoin or out of GameStop at the right time, you can save $70 grand if you are willing to take a chance on a ZR1 that’s covered 1000x more ground (that has somehow added another 10k miles since we covered it last year).

Corvettes on Craigslist: 1989 Corvette Midyear Conversion

You can look at this custom Corvette in two ways.

Either it’s a very inexpensive way to get into a Midyear Corvette, or a very expensive way to get into a C4 Corvette.

The owner of this self-described “one of a kind vehicle” is asking $23,500 for his 1989 Corvette convertible that’s been modded with a pretty slick 1967 Sting Ray retro body kit.

Corvettes for Sale: 1989 Corvette Midyear Conversion

Up for sale in the Binghamton, N.Y., area, the car, which is said to have just 63,000 miles, looks very nice in the craigslist photos with its medium blue exterior and C4 tan leather interior.

Corvettes for Sale: 1989 Corvette Midyear Conversion

The seller describes it as a “super clean” Corvette that “runs, drives, and sounds excellent” with a 5.7-liter Tuned Port engine that if the original produces 240 horsepower. The tires and brakes are described as “like new,” and the photos of the interior seem to live up to the “excellent condition” rating given by the seller.

If you don’t want to shell out big bucks for a C2 Corvette, this might be a good option for you. We don’t usually care for these C4-into-C2 transformations because the lines of the original Sting Ray are too stretched out, but at least looking at the photos, we like this car, especially with the black stinger hood (that tilts by the way), exhaust extensions out the rear, and later model wheels. About the only changes we’d make would be to add back the chrome bumpers, at least on the front.
